About our Peru Trip

Why are We Going to Peru?

Great question!

Since 2008, we've had the privilege of sponsoring Grace, a young woman in Compassion's Leadership Development Program.  This is a university-level program for children who have grown up in poverty and have shown exceptional academic and leadership potential through high school.  The very best students are selected to continue on through university, and Grace was one of them.  Over the years, we have developed a wonderful letter-writing relationship with Grace, which has included mentoring, sharing our past and current life events and dreams, sending occasional gifts, and cheering her on from afar.

Grace is now graduating from the program, and we wanted to let her know how incredibly proud we are of her accomplishment by being there in person for her special day.  We will attend her graduation ceremony, and will then spend the next day visiting with her and her family.

While we are in Peru, we will also take the opportunity to visit Lucero (who lives in the same area as Grace), and whom we have just recently started sponsoring.  We are planning to spend the day with her and to visit her home and her Compassion program as well, and generally getting to know each other.

Since this is likely a once-in-a-lifetime trip, we wanted to take some extra time to see some of Peru's sites!

Where Will We Be Going?

We will be visiting several different areas in Peru, including:
Lima - the capital city
Peru's Amazon rain forest
Cusco - City and Ruins
Machu Picchu
Sacred Valley of the Incas

For those of you who are interested, here is a map showing where Peru is, and then a map of Peru itself.

What Will We Be Blogging About?

That's up to you!

Of course, we will be telling you about what we do and see. But how our blogging goes largely depends on the questions you ask!

If you would like to see us cover a certain topic, please ask a question to let us know! You will be a key part in shaping our collective travel experience!

Why Are We Sharing Our Trip with Kids (of All Ages)?

We love traveling, because we see so many things that are different from the life we know in the United States.  We have experienced different cultures, unusual foods, amazing sites and fun activities.  Often we think "if only our family/friends could be here to see what we are seeing now!"

SO - we decided to try an experiment, and if you will virtually "travel with us," you can be part of this grand experiment.

Kids of all ages are invited to "travel with us" through this blog, so we can all learn and have fun at the same time.  The more you interact with us via the blog, the more fun we'll have learning together!

We are always changed in some way during our travels.  We see things we didn't know existed, learn about new subjects, and sometimes have our priorities changed for the better as we understand how others live and the trials they deal with on a daily basis.  We invite you to come alongside and see how our virtual trip experiment changes you too!
